About the programme
The Conflict Transformation Programme is designed for advanced participants who want to transform conflict and disagreement through NVC-based approaches. It aims both at developing capacity within your own conflicts and at being able to accompany others through theirs.
NVC-based mediation, third-party empathy, conflict in group dynamics, and systemic disagreements are the programme’s main territory.
Who is it for?
This programme suits those with at least one to two years of NVC practice. It may be particularly valuable for people working in these areas:
- Managers and team leaders
- Human resources professionals
- Teachers, educators and facilitators
- Therapists, coaches and counsellors
- Community organisers and activists
- NVC practitioners and (prospective) trainers
What the programme covers
Module 1 — The anatomy of disagreement
You examine how conflict begins, how it escalates, and which unmet needs feed it. You begin to see conflict as information rather than as threat.
- Conflict cycles and triggers
- Mechanisms of defence and attack
- The unmet needs beneath the disagreement
Module 2 — Working with your own conflict
Before you can help others, you have to work with your own reactivity. In this module:
- Working with being triggered, and with reactivity
- “Emergency empathy” — the practice of self-empathy
- Sitting with mourning and anger in difficult relationships
Module 3 — NVC-based mediation
Step by step, the skills needed to mediate between two people or two groups:
- Preparation and creating the space beforehand
- Making sure both sides are heard
- Building the bridge from needs to solutions
- Agreements and next steps
Module 4 — Group and systemic disagreements
Complex conflicts involving several people, or systemic power dynamics:
- Awareness of power, privilege and structural inequality
- The culture of conflict inside organisations
- Disagreements in communities and in public life
Module 5 — Practice and supervision
Working with real situations, case presentations and group supervision:
- Participants bring their own cases
- Live role play and feedback
- Building a personal development plan
